Veteran G8 campaigners, Oxfam, have kicked of the G8 Summit week by rolling out their famous G8 big heads for a game of bluff to demand the G8 recommit to Muskoka, L'Aquilla and Gleneagles Commitments. Oxfam's Big Heads have been on the scene for over six years now as they go back at least as far as the 2005 Gleneagles G8. The organisation has been very conscious of ensuring the head are accurate and have been replacing them as the relevant heads of government have changed. This has been very expensive for the Japanese head. The heads are famous themselves, and were written up by the Canadian press when they arrived in Canada for the 2010 G8.
The message for the G8 from the Big Heads for this photo shoot is: "Will they bluff on aid commitments this year? Oxfam is calling on them to reaffirm their Gleneagles, L’Aquila and Muskoka commitments, and setting out an emergency plan to deliver the overall shortfall in aid promised of $19 billion."
Unfortunately, neither Oxfam GB, Oxfam International or Oxfam France, has put the photo or the associated press release on its website so there no details to follow-up or link to on their excellent photo shoot - shame really.
