Dan Price, the US sherpa under George Bush Jr. writes in the Financial Times that the G20 will be successful if it keeps its focus and not expand its scope to include 'pressing matters' such as climate change and HIV/AIDS.Price is responding to critics that the G20 is not meeting up to its premier economic forum status as evidenced by the poor results of the Seoul Meeting. In the FT op-ed, Price counters that as long as the G20 'stays focused, and expectations are reasonable, even sceptics will be impressed'. As part of this focus, Price warns that the G20 must not deal with pressing global matters such as HIV/AIDS, climate change, and clean drinking water. According to the former Sherpa, "Here [referring to the pressing matters] the G20 must guard against mission creep, which would undercut its efficacy on the global economic issues squarely within its remit."
