Religious leaders make policy calls on G8

Cathedral_interior_smallA host of religious leaders called on the G8 leaders to tackle tax and transparency in an open letter to the Financial Times today. The letter is published on the 1000 day mark for the deadline of the MDGs and lays out concrete policy proposals for thr G8 to take when they meet in Loche Erne in June.
 

ONE calls for mulitlateral war room to help in fight to meet MDGs

OECD DAC figures fail to inspire NGO community

New Arms Treaty greeted with relief

UN_Gun_StatueThe UN General Assembly agreed the first global arms treaty on the 2nd April to the relief of the NGO community. It had been a ten year campaign to get this treaty with a number of set backs on the way so the final agreement was celebrated by NGOs.
 

New report on G20 and food security

WheatThe Stanley Foundation has pubished a new report by Sophia Murphy examing the role of the G20 on food security. The report reviews the G20's intervention and recommends areas that the group could take help forward this area of development.
 

ONE launches agriculture report cards

The new report replaces the ONE Campaign's annual review of development assistance with a sectoral investigation.
 

BRICS bank on development

BRICS_Durban_2013The BRICS group of countries met in a wet Durban on the 25th & 26th March  for the first time on the African continent. The meeting finally agreed to launch the much speculated BRICS development bank, although with few details in terms of the size and contributors of the fund.

Terrorism, trade, tax and transparency on the G8 agenda

UK Prime Minister laid out his G8 plans today at the World Economic Forum in Davos in a fascinating speech that connected terrorism, his 'golden thread' of tax, transparency and trade and poverty. He even managed to end this speech with a quote echoing Presideny Mandela's Make Poverty Speech of 2005 by saying we could be the generation to eradicate absolute poverty.

Russia announces G20 agenda

In a speech laying out the G20 agenda for 2013, the Russian government focused on regulation and transparency - there was little mention of development issues.

UK to host 2013 G8 at yet another golf course

Screen_Shot_2012-11-20_at_6.34.49_PMThe UK will hold the 2013 G8 Summit at a golf resort in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland on the 17th & 18th of June, the Prime Minister announced today. The G8 will focus on trade, taxes and transparency.
 

G20 Sustainablility Scorecard Published

Screen_Shot_2012-11-17_at_3.10.22_PMCorporate Knights (indeed), a Canadian corporate sustainability magazine, has published a scorecard measuring the environmental and social sustainability of the G20. Coming out on top are Germany and Japan with South Africa, India and Saudi Arabia trailing at the bottom.
